Are boxing wraps really necessary under boxing gloves when training? Or is this only for the pros?

No matter what level you're boxing at, you should take the time to put on a pair of boxing wraps before you put on your gloves. It's a cheap and easy way to protect yourself from injury while also protecting your equipment.

Here are some good reasons to use bandages:

The bandage protects the legs in the hand

Hands and fingers are thin bones that can't withstand much. A hard hit against a punching bag can be enough to break one of these, especially if your technique isn't 100%. Boxing bandages support and strengthen these during training.

They protect scenes in hand and thumb

Many strokes in a short time or strokes that hit slightly crookedly can be tough on the joints in the hand. The thumb is especially vulnerable, and it can quickly bend out of normal position with a mishit.

The boxing bandage ensures that your thumb is in a stable position, preventing many unnecessary minor injuries that can prevent you from training properly.

They protect the skin on the bones

A round on the punching bag or pads can go hard on the skin of your bones if they are not covered with a bandage. Constant small frictions and blows against the inside of your boxing glove can cause the thin skin on your bones to crack and you start to bleed.

This is not only uncomfortable (especially the next time you train), but also makes the inside of your boxing gloves unnecessarily dirty.

Bandages protect the wrists

Not all punches land cleanly, and it's easy to injure your wrist if you're not wearing boxing wraps. A well-fitted boxing wrap keeps your wrist stable throughout the session, so that the joint doesn't take the hit.

They protect the glove

You often invest in a good pair of boxing gloves, and it's nice to take good care of them so they last a long time. With boxing bandages under your gloves, you protect the inside of the gloves from the worst - the bandages absorb a lot of the sweat, while also preventing you from getting them dirty with blood.

Boxing bandages are inexpensive

A pair of boxing gloves costs from a few hundred to several thousand, while a good boxing bandage can be found for around 100 NOK. It is a cheap way to protect your equipment so that it lasts longer, and not least it is a cheap way to protect yourself against unnecessary injuries. If you only occasionally hit boxing pads as part of a completely different type of training, such as a circuit training session at the gym, you can probably do this without fear of damaging your hands even if you don't use bandages.

But for most people who have boxing and similar training as part of their routines, bandages should be as much a part of their equipment as boxing gloves.
